Excellent clippers for heavy dog fur January 25, 2008 C. Schmidt (Traveling the USA in an RV) 46 out of 47 found this review helpful
We bought these clippers to trim our long haired German Shepherd Dog. She had a very thick under coat. The clippers worked great. I had no previous training using clippers, so I was a bit nervous about accidentally cutting her. That was never a problem at all. The clippers took a bit of practice to get used to, but once I got the feel of it I was confident. I bought a #7 blade and that's what we used for her heavy coat. I also bought a can of the Andis Cool Care Plus spray. The blade does get hot while clipping, the spray helped to cool it down so we could continue in one session.
The amazing thing about these clippers is that they seem so solidly built. They are not very noisy at all. Actually, my husband and I laugh because these animal clippers are much better than the "human" ones they use on him when he gets a haircut. :)
Amazing! I have a chow chow... November 18, 2008 Cameron T. Freeman (Orlando, FL) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
I have a chow chow who is prone to skin allergies and matting. She has had hot spots and chewed away hair so much we started taking her to the groomers to be shaved down. I had tried other clippers and they couldn't get through the thick under coat. These clippers had my whole chow chow cut in an hour and a half with her full coat (with several resting breaks for my baby). They get a bit warm but nothing near what those cheaper clippers get to and they cool off extremely quickly. I will probably get a longer guard later but the one that came with it doesn't go all the way to the skin, which i prefer. I'm sure if i can cut a chow chow with them, they'll tackle any job. A+++! Worth every penny!
Like a hot knife through butter! June 20, 2008 R. Thompson (Texas) 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I have a black, long-hair, dauschound-spaniel mix (Macy) that has an undercoat so thick I can hardley see her skin. My husband got a pair of Oster clippers at Wal-Mart and they worked fine on our Bicha-Poo who has fine, short hair. But on Macy? They barley cut, they clogged easily as I drug the clipper along her coat and were basically useless. We live in South Texas and in this 100+ degree heat, the poor thing was miserable. So I sprung for the Andis after reading good reviews. I bought them from KV Vet Supply off Amazon and they were a great seller. Everything arrived quickly and the order was complete. These clippers aren't cheap, but a trip to the groomer for both dogs is around $100 so I figure they will pay for themselves in less than two clippings. Poor Macy! As soon as they arrived, I have to play with them of course. So I get a hold of her and I was totally unprepared for how they were going to perform. Wow! They went right down to her undercoat like she didn't have a top coat at all and trimmed perfectly. However, she's looking a little ragged! I'll get better with the blade angle as time goes by I'm sure. But she's much cooler and happier now. And I'm no longer losing my mind with little balls of black fur she leaves behind when she needs a trim. The blades didn't get hot like I have read about some. Of course, she is less than 30 pounds so there is less of her to cut. Perhaps on a bigger dog, they may get hot. I bought the cooling spray too but discovered I really didn't need it since I was done with her in about 10 minutes. These are a great product and I highly recommend!
Recommended by several professional groomers! January 30, 2010 N. Nick (Tampa Bay area, FL USA) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I purchased this grooming tool at the advice by several professional groomers. I was debating between the Andis and Oster...and was told that the Oster was cheaply made (not high quality like the brand used to be) and began breaking due to the cheap plastic that it was made of. Although the Andis is slightly more expensive, I decided to follow their expert recommendation. I am certainly glad I did.
The motor is very quiet compared to the old Oster clippers I had (which, you got it, had begun to break...plastic casing). I love the detachable blades because I clip 2 of my dogs, with different type coats, so I need the option to be able to "quickly" change blades. I also had purchased the attachment combs, but don't like them for the clipping I do. Therefore, I bought additional blades made for specific length coats.
The casing of the unit doesn't get hot at all. I am able to trim both of my dogs without having to take a break to let the unit cool. I trim a Norfolk Terrier, using a 3-1/2 blade (longest blade you can get) and it leaves enough coat on him so he doesn't look scalped yet it is evened out so he doesn't look like a wild wolf. My other dog is an Affenpinscher/Min. Schnauzer mix, so I trim her more like the Min. Schnauzer...using the 10 blade around the muzzle and ears, and for her body I use either the 7 blade in summer or the 5-3/4 blade in winter.
I highly recommend this trimmer. I originally purchased it at a nationally known pet supplies store, on sale. However, I found the price at Amazon.com to be $60 less than the store sale price, so I returned those (new and unused, still in the box of course!!!) and ordered through Amazon.com. You'll be totally amazed at how quiet the motor is...quiet enough that my dogs aren't bothered by it at all. The 2-speeds are nice to have if you need it, but I always use the lower speed...have not found the need to rev it up higher.
Bottom line, great brand trimmer, good quality, quiet, and detachable blades! Also, don't forget...highly recommended brand by several professional dog groomers, so the Andis is long-lasting...should give you years of great clips!
New Groomer! August 13, 2009 Linda L. Brixon 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Andis AGC2 Super Professional Clipper clips hair! I am a new groomer to a small breed dog. The clipper offers two speeds; I used the high speed without even thinking about it. High speed was great, it clipped my Havanese (long haired small dog) without any problems at all. I did buy #40 Blade and Multiple Combs to go with my trimmer.
Removing and changing the blades were difficult to perform on the clipper. Instructions were difficult to understand also. Once I became accustomed to the clipper and understood how the clipper worked, attaching a new blade was very easy. Removing the blade took some practice.
I am very pleased with the clipper and I would recommend this clipper very much. I was pleased with the weight and sound of the clipper. The clipper appears to be very well made and durable. When I first picked up the clipper, I thought it was heavy, but once I started clipping, I did not notice the weight. As for the noise of the clipper, my dog was fine with the buzz sound and I was also pleased with the buzz of the clippers, which I did NOT find annoying.
I did a bunch of research on clippers for a few months. I wanted a clipper that was quiet and I wanted a good clipper that would last years and I think I have found the clipper that will meet my needs. Now, if I can get my dog to stand still while I am clipping, that would be great!
