Awesome toy for multiple dogs!! February 6, 2010 S. King (San Diego, California USA) As I have a Jack Russell terrier and a cocker spaniel, I have a tough time getting toys that are durable (for my happy chewer!), and "cuddly" to satisfy BOTH pets. THIS toy has passed the "chew test" (24 hours thus far...)- and is VERY well- made. Both dogs love pulling the squirrels out of the tree trunk, and actually play with them. I also have to mention that I was very impressed with the incredibly fast (only 2 days!) shipping time- and I didn't select the fast rate delivery service, either. For the price, this is an awesome toy. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has dogs that actively play with their toys.
good toy February 3, 2010 Cecilia Wu (Los Angeles, CA USA) My husky pup likes this toy but he only likes to bite the little squirrels and make them squeak. To him it's not so much of a puzzle. As he grows bigger the squirrels are smaller to him and sometimes I am afraid he's going to swallow them. But he still likes to pick them up and squeak them. I'd say if you have a medium or small breed dog it will be a great toy. They held up, to my surprise, since my pup tears up stuffed toys very quickly.
So Cute February 2, 2010 H. Curry (TX) I'm glad I ordered the jumbo - the smaller ones would not have been right for my dogs. I received the order quickly, very happy with the price and quickness of the seller. This is such a cute toy! I had to get the dogs started; they weren't sure what to do with it. They have short legs so it's a little challenging for them to get the squirrels out - tight fit for all those little dolls! They love just carrying the stump around, though.
But, like with any stuffed toy, if your dog likes to chew, don't count on this to last long! Good thing they sell refills of the little toys because I'm expecting to come home to a pile of stuffing all over the living room any day now.
Tons of fun for spoiled dogs! January 24, 2010 Brandon Dennis (Shreveport, LA United States) This toy is absolutely adorable, and plenty of fun for our two spoiled pups (our older German Shepard never has played with toys). The girls (both black labs) have a blast grabbing the tree trunk and pulling the squirrels out and making them squeak. They quickly take them all around the house and we just hafta watch them to make sure they don't tear them up. Although you can get replacement squirrels (we also have the hide a bee), it's probably just as cheap and easy to buy a new one.
The Pros:
* Pups LOVE the squirrels and it's too funny watching them stick their fat snouts into those hidey holes to grab one.
* The toys are well made and while they're still easily destroyed if we don't pay attention, they hold up well for the most part and have a lot of details (even little whiskers)
The Cons:
* It's a lot of work to keep stuffing the squirrels if your dog is smart enough to immediately pull them out. So you either grab them away from the dog and stuff them back in or let them just play with the squirrels and stuff them later when they're not interested. If you have two dogs like we do, then the whole time you're stuffing squirrels they're BOTH getting themselves super excited and start tugging on the housing.
* We ordered through Amazon.com from EntirelyPets, and two things: 1) Last time we ordered this jumbo hide a squirrel, they sent us a note that they were out of stock and sent a "large" hide a bee. We re-ordered when they were in stock, and even though Amazon shows our order history for a "Jumbo" hide a squirrel, we received a "Large", so apparently there's a mismatch with EntirelyPets inventory and Amazon's. 2) Shipping from EntirelyPets took over a week. Which is fine, but being used to Amazon prime I was hopping for at least 3-4 days. :)
Durable?! Are they kidding? January 22, 2010 S. McCloskey My dog had a really good time with this toy for the nine hours it lasted before he ripped apart the fabric between two of the holes. Man, I was so disappointed! I thought even if he destroyed the squirrels, we could buy spare squirrels and keep playing with the toy. Instead now we have a bunch of squirrels all over the house and a tree that poses no challenge at all. You would think they would make that stupid tree out of kevlar or something if they're going to advertise this as a durable toy.
That being said, the nine hours my dog played with this toy for, he really seemed to enjoy it. He loved getting his nose inside the tree and shaking the tree hoping one of the squirrels would fly out. Just wish it came with a warranty or something.
If you have the kind of dog that cares for toys rather than destroying them I think this would be a really awesome toy. I'm just so annoyed...this is probably the shortest-lived toy we've ever gotten for him.
