I used to have a small fountain that always needed to be refilled and cleaned. Now with the Drinkwell unit I almost forget about it. It goes a very long time before needing to be cleaned and I only refill the tank unit every ten days. I love it!!!

I have one cat that will not drink standing water and so I invested in the cheaper fountain probably four years ago. My cat liked the fountain but I sure hated cleaning the darn thing! I have arthritis in my hands and had a devil of a time getting the electric plug out of the bottom of the fountain.
A few months ago I upgraded to the platinum version. I'm really glad I did for a number of reasons: the reservior is a great feature, particularly when I go out of town for the weekend; the fountain is MUCH easier to clean and I'm doing so on a weekly basis (I don't want to admit how infrequently I did it with the harder-to-clean version). The flow adjustment is much more sensitive too.

Before I bought the Drinkwell I was using plain old water bottles with my cats. This fountain provides the convenience of a water bottle plus a functional filtration system that helps keep the water clean.
My cats like it just fine although they were certainly curious about the sound it makes! (The pump is silent, however if you have the stream on a higher setting, it makes a small fountain-like sound).
Part of the reason I purchased this is because someone gave me an Amazon gift card, however I would purchase it again even if I had no gift card.
